We have partnered with Control Flow Technologies to help tenants save money on their water bill, and reduce the amount of water that gets wasted. This is a free scheme we are offering to all of our council tenants.
For some tenants, we think this could reduce their annual water bill by up to £360 per year. There is also the benefit of protecting the environment by preserving our water supplies.
Using funding that we received from the Government’s Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government, we are arranging an initial water audit for Council homes with a water meter and fitting water saving devices where appropriate. We are also looking to use this funding for other water saving measures in our offices at South Cambs Hall as well as projects in Cambridge City and County wide.
You can find out more about the funding and other water saving projects we are carrying out in our news release.
Water audit
The water audit takes place over 2 short visits, 30 days apart. During the first visit, an auditor from Control Flow Technologies will visit your home to take a meter reading, offer water-saving tips, and discuss your household’s water use.
They will then arrange a second visit for an engineer to install a water-saving device on the incoming water main of your property. Installation only takes around 30 to 45 minutes.
During their visit they will inspect your home for any hidden leaks in toilets, taps or showers and, if they are able to, repair them.
Book an audit
You can book an audit online via the Control Flow website. You can also email watersaving@controlflow.co.uk for more information.
Be aware of scammers and always ask for I.D
You might also spot representatives from Control Flow Technologies in your area, and you can book an appointment with them directly if you wish. They will all carry photo ID, and you can call Control Flow Technologies on 0800 783 7007 to verify their identity if you have any concerns.
Never provide any bank or payment details to anyone claiming to be connected to this scheme. This is free of charge.
How it can save you money
By regulating the flow, the device reduces water wastage which can be caused by the fluctuations in pressure and flow that occur throughout the day in the mains system. On average the devices save around 84 litres of water per household per day. This can also translate to 7kWH of gas per household per day so saving water not only saves money on water bills but also saves money on energy bills, up to £360 per year.
You shouldn’t notice a difference when you turn on a tap or shower, or need to significantly change your normal water habits to be able to save money.
