Every year we issue an Annual Governance Statement (AGS). This is an opportunity for us to reflect on how we operate, the practices we have put in place, and how we have worked to strengthen our governance systems.
This is published alongside our Statement of Accounts and subject to External Audit. The AGS works in partnership with our Local Code of Corporate Governance [PDF, 0.5MB], which describes our governance arrangements.
Annual Governance Statements cover:
- an assessment of the effectiveness of governance arrangements
- details what improvements have been made to governance arrangements over the past year
- potential future challenges to good governance.
The AGS is prepared following an annual review of the Council’s governance activities, input from senior officers and Internal Audit and scrutiny by the Audit and Corporate Governance Committee, in line with national guidance.
