Gypsy, Roma and Traveller History Month

Gypsy, Roma and Traveller History Month

During June 2021, the Council is hosting some live webinars and virtual exhibitions to encourage colleagues to learn about Gypsy, Roma and Traveller culture.

Earlier in the year we ran programmes to raise awareness of the experiences of people within both the Black and LGBTQ+ communities, and this programme is designed to similarly shine a spotlight on some of the barriers that Gypsy, Roma and Traveller people face and to ensure colleagues are better equipped to support Gypsy, Roma and Traveller people.

If you need any support to access the events, please email the team at equality.schemes@scambs.gov.uk.

Throughout June

Throughout June, all staff are invited to complete some free training via the South Cambridgeshire District Council e-learning zone. Just visit the course library and search for 'Gypsy and Traveller cultural awareness training'. It last for one hour and you can do this at a time that is convenient for you.

Pre-event form

We're asking people to fill in a really short survey as soon as possible before attending one of the live Zoom events, as this will help the training providers to ensure that they can pitch the training at the right level, depending on how much colleagues already know about the community. Also, if colleagues have particular topics they would like to have covered, the organisers hope to invite members of the community to the session who are best able to speak about different topics.
