Submissions open for the 2023 Greater Cambridge Design and Construction Awards

An annual awards scheme to celebrate Greater Cambridge’s building design and construction industries is now open for submissions.
The Greater Cambridge Shared Planning Service and the Cambridge Forum for the Construction Industry (CFCI) are inviting entries for the Greater Cambridge Design and Construction Awards 2023.
The awards celebrate the best in the design and construction of our built environment, and the skilled people who make it happen.
Previous winners of the awards include the New College Library, Magdalene College, which went on to win the Stirling Prize 2022.
Judging for the Building Awards covers all aspects of the building, including design, sustainability, engineering, workmanship, and construction.
This year there are additional submission requirements to those of previous years, including a statement on the contractor’s performance and a sustainability/engineering statement.
Meredith Bowles, CFCI Chair, said: “Greater Cambridge has a long history of brilliant preservation alongside exemplary new development; people come here to see how it should be done. The Awards are a way to shine a light on the very best work being done, and to encourage the highest quality for future developments.”
Cllr Katie Thornburrow, Executive Councillor for Planning Policy and Transport, Cambridge City Council, said: “This area is rightly celebrated nationally for the quality of architecture and urban design in our new buildings. These awards celebrate the best work from our construction sector at the whole range of scales, from small projects to major schemes. They allow us to highlight the number of people and variety of skills that contribute to the success of the construction industry in the local area, and the high level of professionalism that they attain.”
Cllr Dr. Tumi Hawkins, South Cambridgeshire District Council’s Lead Cabinet Member for Planning, said: “The Greater Cambridge Design and Construction Awards allow the two Councils to showcase what can be achieved when developers and the local authority work together to deliver the best for our local communities. If you know of a recently completed building project, contractor or person working in the construction industry that you think deserves recognition, then please consider entering them for the awards.”
Entries should be submitted by 5pm on Monday 9 January 2023, and the award winners will be announced in a ceremony in March 2023.
Submissions should be made through the Awards page on the Greater Cambridge Shared Planning website. Greater Cambridge Shared Planning is a partnership between Cambridge City and South Cambridgeshire District Councils.
