Wild Minds

Wild Minds is a free 8-week programme for teenagers (14 to 17) aimed to improve mental health through group-based activities such as survival skills, paddle boarding and yoga at Milton Country Park. We have developed this course together with Cambridge Sport Lakes Trust and is supported by a Clinical Psychologist.

Running

Couch to 5k programme - Waterbeach

Come and join the 10-week Couch to 5k programme to support you to start running. The next beginners programme starts on 13 September 2021. We recommend new beginners join within the first 3 weeks of the programme. 

  • Where: Meeting at Village Green (opposite White Horse pub), Waterbeach, CB25 9HP
  • When: Starting 13 September - 7pm on Mondays
  • Number of sessions: 10 (1 session a week for 10 weeks)
  • Price: Free to attend but please book your space in advance

Fitness classes

Introduction to Functional Fitness

Are you in your 50s or older and found your BMI creeping up? Would like to start a new fitness routine? Then try our 6-week Functional Fitness course designed to help build usable strength and fitness at Crossfit Gym, Milton.

In functional fitness we focus on whole body strength training, posture correction, balance and stability that keeps you fit for life’s everyday movements, from moving groceries from the car, picking up or bouncing a child on your lap, to heavy gardening, to hiking that mountain. Focusing on whole body strength training, posture, balance and stability – it’s fun and interactive.

This is a sponsored course in partnership with Healthy You South Cambridgeshire so we are able to offer it to you at a really reduced rate. Classes are limited to 10 people.

  • Where: Crossfit Gym in Milton, North Cambridge
  • When: Starting 28 September - 7:45am to 8:30am, Tuesday and Thursday mornings
  • Number of sessions: 12 (2 sessions a week for 6 weeks)
  • Price: £30

Netball

Return to fitness through netball

These sessions are aimed at ladies of any age with BMI 26 and over to improve fitness, mobility, strength & balance, all whilst having fun in a relaxed and social environment. All sessions will be fun and social and games will be played at a slower pace. 

If you have any medical conditions and have not exercised for quite some time, you should get approval from your GP to exercise.

All fitness equipment is provided. We advise wearing clothing that is easy to move around in and suitable footwear that is well fitting and non slip. Rubber soled lace up/trainers are ideal. Please come prepared for all types of weather and bring a bottle of water.

  • When: Starting 21 September - 12:15pm to 1pm on Tuesdays 
  • Number of sessions: 6 (1 session a week for 6 weeks)

 Yoga

Yoga for Mental Health

In these times, it’s more important than ever to have a healthy body and mind. We are committed to offering classes which will nourish you from the inside out, whether you’re a complete beginner, a seasoned practitioner, fitness lover, or relaxation seeker.”

There will be 4 in-person yoga classes and 2 pre-recorded videos to keep: Mindfulness and Yoga Nidra (meditation and relaxation).

Please bring your own mat and wear something comfortable but not too loose (the practice is done barefoot). Please also bring a water bottle. There will be an opportunity to hire props (like mats, belts, bricks, bolsters).

  • When: Starting 18 September - 10am to 11am on Saturdays
  • Number of sessions: 4 (1 session a week)

These 4 free taster sessions are designed for women and girls looking to start or get back into physical activity. Sessions include inclusive activities that will get you back on track to improve your fitness. All fitness equipment is provided. Please come prepared for all types of weather and bring a bottle of water.

  • Where: Shelford Rugby Club
  • When: Starting 26 September - 6:30pm on Wednesdays and 9:30am on Saturdays 
  • Number of sessions: 4 (2 classes a week)
  • Price: Free

Walking

Wellbeing walks

Join one of our free post-lockdown group walks in a safe friendly environment. Our group walks are led by friendly, specially trained leaders who are on hand to provide encouragement and support, and make sure no one gets left behind. Our walks are short and over easy terrain. They are open to everyone, but are especially aimed at those who are least active.
