South Cambridgeshire District Council has a duty to ensure that the discounts it awards are correct. Discounts allowed incorrectly have an effect on upon the level of council tax that is charged and the amount of revenue support grant that the Council receives from Central Government. This means that if the discounts being awarded are incorrect it has an impact on all council tax payers. It is essential therefore that the Council's records are accurate and that errors are corrected as quickly as possible. The review being carried out is a targeted review in that the Council has not sent a letter to every household with a sole person discount. The Council's data has been cross referenced against data for credit reference bureau's (details of whom are provided in the frequently asked questions information above) and where there is a mismatch a letter has been sent asking customers for clarification/further information regarding their sole person discount claim.
