Right to Buy social mobility fund
Making the move: A scheme to help tenants buy a home on the open market.
We want to make best use of our existing houses, provide tenants with alternative ways of becoming homeowners and offer the ability to move to other areas for employment or to be closer to family.
We have recently been successful with our bid for £200,000 of Government funding to help some Council tenants to become homeowners through the open market - this is called the ‘Right to Buy Social Mobility Fund’. If you are eligible to activate your Right to Buy but the property you are living in isn’t suitable for your current or future plans then we may be able to help. Successful applicants could receive up to £20,000 to help fund their aspirations of homeownership and in addition we will also contribute £500 towards any associated removal costs. There are terms and conditions, so please contact us for full information.
Not only can this scheme enable some tenants to realise their dream of homeownership, but it can also free up Council properties that can be let to people currently on the waiting list. Due to the shortage of 1 and 2 bedroom homes within the district, we are particularly keen to hear from people in these size properties. Please contact us if you would like some more information on the ‘Making the move’ scheme, but please note that at present we only have the ability to provide the finances to fund 10 moves. So if this is something that you are interested in, please get in touch with us as soon as possible to avoid any disappointment.
