We have a dedicated team of experts who look after arboriculture, trees, hedges and related landscape issues across our district.
We process applications for work on protected trees in conservation areas and trees protected by a Tree Preservation Order. Carrying out work on these type of trees without permission is a criminal offence.
We also make new Tree Preservation Orders and check planning applications to assess the impact of proposed development upon trees.
Hedgerows and high hedges
We consider applications to remove hedgerow under the Hedgerow Regulations 1997. We also advise our enforcement service on high hedge applications.
The Tree Warden Scheme is a national initiative founded by the Tree Council, which we co-ordinate locally. Tree Wardens are volunteers, usually appointed by Parish Councils. They gather information about local trees and coordinate practical projects in their community.
Communities can apply for grants of up to £1,000 for tree or hedgerow projects through our Community Chest Grants Scheme. Our experts are happy to give advice to any group before they submit a grant application.
If you are planning to remove hedgerow or carry out work on trees - and are not sure if your tree is covered by a Tree Protection Order - please get in touch using the below contact details box before any work is carried out.
