New grant scheme opens for local organisations working with children and young people
A new grant scheme to provide funds for South Cambridgeshire projects that support children and young people has opened.
As part of the District Council’s work to help people recover from the Coronavirus pandemic, a total of £38,000 is available for projects which help to empower children and young people; helping them to build self-belief and make a positive difference to themselves and their community. Organisations that are independently set-up for charitable or social benefit (including Parish Councils) can apply for funding grants of between £4,000 and £8,000 via an application form on South Cambridgeshire District Council’s website.
The deadline to apply for the grants is Wednesday 10 November.
Cllr Bill Handley, South Cambridgeshire District Council’s Lead Cabinet Member for Community Resilience, Health and Wellbeing, said: “The Children and Young People Grant scheme is intended to financially support projects in the district that promote the well-being and resilience of our young people. Over the past 18 months, because of the pandemic, children and young people have missed out on being part of communities both at school and at home. This grant will support organisations that provide opportunities for children and young people, and their families, to take part in activities beneficial to their physical and mental health and well-being, whilst also contributing positively to the community.”
The grant scheme was recently endorsed by the Grants Advisory Committee. The committee will review all the applications and award the grants to successful projects in early 2022. It is expected that the fund should be spent between January 2022 and December 2022.
Chair of the Council’s Grants Advisory Committee Cllr Jose Hales, said: “Our Committee is really looking forward to receiving lots of applications to fund a wide range of projects that really make an impact on the lives of children and young people. As part of the application process, we really want to see how groups will have a positive impact on not just young people but also on their families and the wider community.”
