Contract: Full time.

37 hours per week, plus out of hours response.

We are currently recruiting for a Watercourses Operative to join The South Cambridgeshire District Council team. You will be based predominantly at our Oakington satellite depot.

South Cambridgeshire District Council awarded watercourses are a small team of 4 staff covering over 275km of awarded watercourses and associated infrastructures. The watercourse service is constantly looking to improve and evolve as the service continually grows. We are an innovative and proactive team which has a positive and flexible approach to challenges. It is important that you have excellent communication skills to deal with a variety of situations and the ability to work well under pressure and manage a varied workload with competing priorities.

As a Watercourse Operative you will directly carry out day to day watercourse maintenance duties such as de-silting, weeding and repairs to banks and infrastructure. You will have experience of operating tractor flails and ditch maintenance equipment as well as the desired skills of operating excavation machinery and associated plant.

We are looking for persons who have previous experience in land drainage / civils / landscape / farm maintenance type environments and experience in operating associated equipment in urban and remote environments.

This position is a public facing, high profile service that ensures properties and land are protected from flooding therefore you will have excellent communication skills and the ability to problem solve and deliver excellent customer service.
