We currently have an exciting opportunity to work within the Greater Cambridge Shared Planning Service, to work in a vibrant and busy Development Management department as a Planning Officer.

You will have the chance to progress and determine a wide variety of planning applications, appeals and pre-application enquiries, working on some of the most innovative developments in the UK. In addition, you will have an enthusiastic, supportive team around you to help you grow and develop your career in planning.

What sets us apart from other organisations is our range of projects, including meeting the planning needs of Europe’s most important biotechnology cluster, regeneration schemes providing new low carbon districts and developing the first joint Local Plan in an area that has the fastest-growing city economy in the country.

Greater Cambridge offers a unique opportunity to work within the beautiful historic City of Cambridge, home to world renowned universities, hospitals and cutting-edge science, as well as delivering high quality modern developments within the rural areas of South Cambridgeshire. Our combined growth agenda includes a range of new settlements within South Cambridgeshire and urban extensions to Cambridge.

Our teams have excellent relationships with local practices and work with world class architects and specialists on schemes that provide huge personal and professional reward. If you would like to work on award winning schemes in an exciting and fast paced environment, come and join us!

We are looking for individuals with enthusiasm and a keenness to learn. Excellent customer service skills are a must as well as being a team player. If you have the ambition to embrace the exciting challenges of this busy Shared Planning Service, there is no better place to develop your career.

We operate a hybrid working policy, where teams determine their own working arrangements to fit their individual and team needs. Within the Planning team we are primarily working from home, with an expectation to attend in person at weekly team meetings, occasional additional meetings and training as required.

From January 2023 until March 2023 we will be taking part in a 4-day working week trial. A 4-day week is when full-time staff work one less day per week (4 days instead of 5) but still get paid the same salary. It is not the same as compressed hours, which is working the traditional 37-hour week over four long days. A 4-day week for a full-time employee at the Council will consist of 30 hours. For part time staff, the amount of hours reduced would be calculated via a pro-rata reduction. A helpful way of explaining this arrangement is that staff will need to get 100% of their work done, in 80% of the time, for 100% of their salary. The purpose of this trial is to better support the health and wellbeing of our colleagues, while still delivering an excellent service to our residents.
