Could you afford to replace your possessions this winter?
Our tenants are being urged to take preventative measures to avoid burst water pipes this coming winter.
Our advice would be to make sure you have adequate home contents insurance, in case the worst happens.
During 2009 claims for burst pipes cost insurers £800 million yet many of us may still underestimate the risk.
Research shows that 57% of us worry about burglaries whilst away at Christmas but only 8% of us were concerned about burst pipes. Research by one insurer shows the average burst pipe claim they paid out in winter 2009 was around £15,000.
Most insurance policies will cover damage caused by freezing water and leaking water from tanks, pipes and heating systems.
We have joined forces with Thistle Insurance Services Ltd, who administer the scheme, to offer all tenants and residents the chance to insure the contents of their homes in an easy, affordable way.
The Crystal Insurance Scheme has been designed to help tenants and residents insure most of their belongings as easily as possible and also covers them against theft, vandalism and fire.
The premiums start from £1.50 a fortnight or £1.15 a fortnight respectively.
