A new door-ning as online advent calendar launches

30 November 2016

An interactive online advent calendar featuring daily videos with top tips and help for the festive season has been launched by a local council in a move to make the Christmas countdown a fun experience for customers and colleagues alike.

South Cambridgeshire District Council will be unveiling a new video every day until Christmas, promoting the services that residents and businesses could find particularly useful during the festive period.

The fun, and often tongue in cheek, daily videos will be made available through the Council’s social media channels – each one containing a serious message to help make sure the Christmas season goes with a bang.

The timely messages and advice range from food safety when eating out or cooking Christmas dinner and taxi safety for partygoers to how to recycle all the extra waste and when the bins will be collected over the holidays.

Cllr Peter Topping, Leader of South Cambridgeshire District Council, said: “We hope our advent calendar catches people’s imagination and provides a new group of people we have struggled to reach in the past with some really important information that they may have previously missed out on. Although our YouTube clips are fun and light-heated, the videos all have an underlying serious message that will help make sure our residents and businesses have a fantastic Christmas period and take advantage of the facilities we have on offer."

In the last 12 months, the Council has improved its website with the introduction of e-forms that allow customers to self-serve and report, pay and apply for services online at their convenience. This advent calendar supports the Council’s move towards digital by default to help target and deliver services better and save money.
