Have your say on new Council for Trumpington Meadows
People in and around Trumpington Meadows on the edge of Cambridge and the nearby villages are being urged to have their say after a proposal to create a new parish council to represent the community was put forward.
Trumpington Meadows currently lies within the parish of Haslingfield, but since new homes and facilities have been built on the edge of Cambridge a review was suggested to make sure local residents were being represented appropriately.
The changes to the governance for the area will see a new council set up to take on the role Haslingfield Parish Council currently does for Trumpington Meadows.
The new council would cover the area of Trumpington Meadows which falls within South Cambridgeshire district. The District and County Council roles and responsibilities for Trumpington Meadows will remain unchanged.
A final public consultation launched today with local people being asked to log on to South Cambridgeshire District Council’s website before 14 November 2016 to give their views.
The suggestions currently being consulted on follow an initial consultation earlier this year to gather opinions on the best options. South Cambridgeshire District Council’s Civic Affairs committee then reviewed the information and put forward a recommendation on which to consult further.
Cllr Sue Ellington, South Cambridgeshire District Council’s Chairman and Chairman of the Civic Affairs committee, said: “I am really pleased how we have been able to facilitate a good local debate on how this new community should be represented. Although Haslingfield Parish Council do a fantastic job for the community at the moment, the responses from the initial consultation showed that the current arrangements could be improved upon. We now have a proposal on the table and really want everyone to make sure they have their say.”
