Half term camps for young sports enthusiasts

13 October 2016

Young residents can beat back the winter blues and hone their sporting skills this half term with a programme of activities lined up by South Cambridgeshire District Council.

A junior athletics camp, for 7 to 15 year olds, will offer participants of all abilities the chance to receive training in sprinting, jumping, throwing and endurance running by England Athletics qualified coaches followed by a fun competition. The session will run on Wednesday 26 October, from 10am to 3.30pm, at Wilberforce Road Athletics Track in Cambridge.

A junior netball camp also for 7 to 15 year olds will offer participants the opportunity to benefit from training with England Netball qualified coaches before putting their skills into practice in game play.  The session will take place on Thursday 27 and Friday 28 October, from 10am to 3.30pm, at Impington Village College.

Each session is open to boys and girls and will cost just £20 per child for the day (£34 for two siblings), £34 for two days or £46 for three days.

Participants are asked to wear suitable footwear and clothing, and bring a packed lunch and drink.

South Cambridgeshire District Council’s cabinet member for new communities, Cllr Mark Howell, said: “Our holiday camps have proved increasingly popular year on year and, hot off the back of the recent Olympics, they aim to  to enthuse and engage our younger residents, driving home the importance of keeping fit and living a healthy lifestyle.”
