First residents move into Northstowe

11 May 2017

A landmark event is being celebrated at Northstowe as the first new residents have moved into their homes.

Built by Bloor Homes, the first houses were occupied in April and more buyers are due to move into the new town over the coming months, with over a quarter already reserved.

Bloor Homes is building the first 92 homes at Northstowe, which will be a range of two, three, four and five bedroom houses.  The much anticipated two 4-bedroom Show Homes will be opening to the public on the 13th May.

A sustainable and thriving new town, Northstowe will eventually encompass up to 10,000 new homes and will have a full range of early year, primary, secondary and special educational needs facilities. As part of this developing community there will be healthcare, GP surgeries, recreation and community facilities and shops within the town as well as civic spaces to host events that will attract visitors from across the county and further afield.

The Guided Busway is already in place to serve the first people moving in to the new town, providing a reliable, fast and frequent link into Cambridge and the market towns of St Ives and Huntingdon. There will also be cycling and pedestrian routes with the town and neighbouring areas.

Cambridgeshire County Council and South Cambridgeshire District Council have worked with the promoters of the new town, Gallagher Estates, to make sure a new school was in place for the first residents’ children to attend from the new school year.

Developers are also funding a Council community engagement officer to help new residents settle in to their homes and integrate with the nearby existing communities.

Just six miles north of Cambridge, Northstowe is attracting interest from a range of buyers, from would-be homeowners keen to get on the property ladder, families looking to be part of this new community, to downsizers from the surrounding villages.

Monika Hanlon, Regional Sales Director at Bloor Homes Eastern, said: “The interest in the early releases at Northstowe has been phenomenal and we are delighted that over a quarter of our homes have already been reserved off-plan.

“We look forward to welcoming the first residents into their brand new high specification homes, and they will have the opportunity to be the first to use a range of amenities such as a primary school and community buildings.  They will also be able to use the super-fast fibre broadband that will be available to all residents, adding to the benefits of living in the town.”

“With its close proximity to Cambridge and excellent transport links to the city, Northstowe has proved to be an extremely popular development with buyers looking for high quality and affordable homes in this sought-after area.   The town is connected to the north and east by the Cambridgeshire Guided Busway, with a stop close to the development.  This provides a direct connection to Cambridge and offers an integrated transport link with the new Cambridge North mainline railway station, also due to open in May 2017.”

“We are immensely proud to be delivering the first homes at what is the largest planned new settlement in England in 50 years, and I would encourage anyone interested in living here, to visit our sales office and Show Homes where they can find out more about the homes we are building and view the plans for Northstowe as a whole.”

Cllr Tim Wotherspoon, South Cambridgeshire District Council’s cabinet member for planning, said: “The first residents moving in is a huge milestone for the new town. It will take many years for the town to be fully built but now is the time to look to the future and the exciting opportunities we have, to create a vibrant community where people will want to live, work and go to school. Having excellent public transport links and a school in place so early in the new town is a great start and the very high interest in the new homes reported by the house builders shows that Northstowe is somewhere that people really want to be a part of. A total of over 600 homes already have planning permission at the town and four other housebuilders are either on site or nearly ready to get underway.”

Four-bedroom houses are currently available at Northstowe, priced from £424,995. Further sales releases will be available when the Show Homes open to the public on Saturday (13 May).
