By-election for Melbourn Parish Council after councillors step down

A by-election has been called for Melbourn Parish Council after eight parish councillors resigned.

 

If more than eight candidates stand for election, a poll will be held on Thursday 22 September between 7am and 10pm.

 

If eight or fewer candidates stand, they will be elected unopposed on the close of nominations on 25 August.

 

Anyone wishing to stand for election should visit the Electoral Commission website – www.electoralcommission.org.uk – to find out more information and to download a nomination form.

 

Nomination forms can also be requested from South Cambridgeshire District Council’s elections team on elections@scambs.gov.uk or by calling 03450 455 214

 

Completed nomination forms must be handed in to the Council’s Cambourne offices between Wednesday 17 August and 4pm on Wednesday 25 August.

 

To be eligible to stand, candidates must be aged 18 or over and be British or a citizen of a member country of the European Union or Commonwealth.

 

They must also either be registered to vote in South Cambridgeshire, have lived or worked in or within three miles of Melbourn for the whole of the last 12 months, or have been the owner or tenant of a home in the parish council area for at least one year.
