A14 Cambridge to Huntingdon opened May 2020

As of 5 May 2020, the A14 Cambridge to Huntingdon scheme is now completed and open to traffic. This is 8 months ahead of schedule.

We know that finishing off works still need to be carried out around the scheme, which includes works on slip roads and landscaping and some of these works will be carried out over off peak and overnight times.

We are working hard with Highways England to try to make the most of the reduced traffic situation on the roads due to COVID-19, and get as much work done in daytime hours however, to ensure that some of the works can be carried out safely some off peak daytime and overnight closure will still be needed.

We would like to thank our residents for their continued patience and support during the works, as we recognise that for our many of our residents it has been a difficult time, as commuters and residents living in close proximity to the works.

We will continue to update our residents as and when we have the information in upcoming works.

Road closures

The planned road closures for this week can be viewed online and this page is updated weekly.

Please note that it is sometimes necessary for Highways England to undertake unscheduled closures to undertake emergency repairs.

We have created a poster to help spread the word about the A14 upgrade updates that are available to residents of Histon, Impington and Orchard Park. You can download the poster.

Who to contact to find out more?

Highways England have dedicated people who can be contacted as your first point of call for further information on works being undertaken in a given section of the route, or if you have any concerns about the works:

  • Sections 4 & 5: Swavesey to Milton please email: Engagement@thea14.com
  • Alternatively, you can contact Highways England on the A14 helpline on 0800 270 0114.
    • This will be answered by a team member during site hours 8am to 5pm, Monday to Friday and messages can be left at other times. Further updates as the scheme progresses can be found on the Highways England website.

A rapid response number 01480 220281 is available for night work enquiries specific to Junction 32 only. This will be answered by a team member during the hours of 9pm to 6am. Please do not use this to enquire about upcoming closures and diversions, information for these can be found on our road closure page.

Night works schedule

Following a recent inspection of the work around Histon junction 32, a number of items have been identified which need to be corrected before all our works are completed.

This work is scheduled to take place next week (Monday 6 to Friday 10 July), with activities occurring during both the day and night.  We have outlined below the night works required and the anticipated duration of these.

If work goes well, we hope not to have to use the full series of nights.

  • A14 Histon junction 32 westbound exit slip – removal and replacement of a section of safety barrier and repairs to the maintenance bay (6 – 10 July)
  • B1049 Bridge Road northbound - removal of the existing safety barrier terminal and minor top soiling to the ground around barrier (6 – 10 July)
  • A14 Histon junction 32 eastbound entry slip pedestrian crossing – surfacing works from completion of crossing (8 July)

Some of these activities will require the use of equipment which will generate noise from equipment other than vehicles, such as drills or small compaction equipment, but where practical noise mitigation measures will be applied to minimise any disturbance.
