Community awards

Awards for outstanding contributions towards community life in South Cambridgeshire were announced and presented on 9 March 2017 at the seventh annual Community Awards Celebration, held in the Council Chamber, South Cambridgeshire Hall. 

The evening was hosted by Cllr Sue Ellington, Chairman of the Council and compered by Cllr Mark Howell, Environment Services Portfolio  holder.

The Environment Award  for work improving the village environment, and/or tackling wider environmental problems was presented by Cllr Nigel Cathcart.

The winner was Sarah Harris for the Milton Country Park Community Orchard.

In 2nd place was the Community Led Plan Implementation Group, Croydon.

In 3rd place was Sustainable Cottenham.

The Outstanding Youth Initiative Award for work supporting young people was presented by Cllr Henry Batchelor. 

The winner was Carol Wright and Chris Robins for their work with the Gamlingay Summer Playscheme.

In 2nd place was Deborah James for Abington Woods.

In 3rd place was Hannah Turner for Swavesey Village College's Enrichment Week.

The Parish Councillor of the Year Award was presented by Cllr David McCraith.

The joint winners were Sarah Groom, Gamlingay Parish Council and Gill Ashby,  Longstanton Parish Council.

In 2nd place was Terry Sadler, Ickleton Parish Council.

The Outstanding Local Service or Amenity Award was presented by Cllr Peter Topping.  

The winner was Over Day Centre.

In 2nd place was Compass Cafe, Swavesey.

In joint 3rd place were Bethel Baptist Church Community Rooms, Roger Stubbings of People of Sawston and Wandlebury Park, Babraham.

The Wellbeing Award was presented by Cllr Deborah Roberts.

The winner was Anne Hall, Little Abington.

In 2nd place were Fen Edge Runners, Over.

In 3rd place was Geoff Klein, martial arts instructor, Bassingbourn.

The Portfolio Holder's Award was presented by Cllr Mark Howell to Oakington Environment Action Group.

The Village Hero Award was presented by Cllr Nick Wright.

The winner was Martin Sebborn, Toft.

In 2nd place was Andrew Clark, Linton.

In 3rd place was Lyn Pepperel, Stapleford.
