Bin days have changed
Missed bin collections - Tuesday 2 May
All collection rounds have been successfully completed today.
If your bin has been missed, please report it using our online form by 3.30pm the day after it was due for collection. We will arrange for it to be recollected.
Thank you for your patience following the recent round changes.
Update on changes to bin collections
Bin collection days changed for 80% of households on 27 February. Thank you for your patience, understanding and assistance while our bin crews have been adapting to their new rounds.
Our bin crews are out collecting more than 30,000 bins each weekday, and many are learning new routes, so we apologies for missing some bins since the changes were introduced. We are typically collecting 95% of bins when we say we will, returning for reported missed bins within four working days, and working weekends to help catch up when necessary.
Please remember to have your bin out for collection by 6am and be aware that severe weather may affect our collections.
Trade waste collections remain unaffected.
Why have these changes been made?
In order to save £700,000 over three years we now have a shared waste collection service for South Cambridgeshire and Cambridge City. New bin collection rounds will work across the City and South Cambs boundary, travelling approximately 20,000 fewer miles per year saving money and reducing traffic and emissions. The savings will help meet some of the Council’s overall targets as the funding we receive from Government has been cut considerably. The new rounds mean that we need to make changes to collection days for most properties.
I have a longer gap than usual between collections for one of my bins - what should I do if I can’t fit all my waste in the bin?
Extra recycling will be collected on your new recycling day if left next to your blue bin in a cardboard box or returnable container. Extra black bin rubbish and garden waste can be taken to the Recycling Centres near Milton or Thriplow.
I have an assisted collection, do I need to let the Council know?
No, your assisted collection will be moved over to your new collection day automatically.
I think my bin has been missed, what do I do?
Please check the schedule again, as well as any other letters we have sent you. If you still think you have been missed, return to the homepage and click on the ‘Report it’ button where there is a quick and easy online form to fill in. If you report your missed bin by 3pm the day after your scheduled collection, our crews will arrange to return for it.
