Bin day changes
Bin days are changing
From Monday 27 February most households across South Cambridgeshire will have a change to the day that their bins are emptied; their collection sequence (the order in which blue and green or black bins are put out); or their collection time. Black bins will continue to be emptied one week and blue and green bins the following week.
For collections up to Friday 24 February, please check the winter issue of the South Cambs Magazine or use our "Find your bin collection" page. For bin collection dates after Monday 27 February use our new bin collection dates page.
Please remember to have your bin out for collection by 6am and be aware that the severe weather may affect our collections.
Why are these changes being made?
In order to save £700,000 over three years we now have a shared waste collection service for South Cambridgeshire and Cambridge City. New bin collection rounds will work across the City and South Cambs boundary, travelling approximately 20,000 fewer miles per year saving money and reducing traffic and emissions. The savings will help meet some of the Council’s overall targets as the funding we receive from Government has been cut considerably. The new rounds mean that we need to make changes to collection days for most properties.
I have a longer gap than usual between collections for one of my bins - what should I do if I can’t fit all my waste in the bin?
Extra recycling will be collected on your new recycling day if left next to your blue bin in a cardboard box or returnable container. Extra black bin rubbish and garden waste can be taken to the Recycling Centres near Milton or Thriplow.
I have an assisted collection, do I need to let the Council know?
No, your assisted collection will be moved over to your new collection day automatically.
I think my bin has been missed, what do I do?
Please check the schedule again, as well as any other letters we have sent you. If you still think you have been missed, return to the homepage and click on the ‘Report it’ button where there is a quick and easy online form to fill in. If you report your missed bin by 3pm the day after your scheduled collection, our crews will arrange to return for it.
