Have your say on the new planning application for 7 Shops and 140 dwellings.(S/2559/11)
Gallagher's recently submitted a hyrid planning application for the Local Centre and Corner sites (S/2559/11), to provide approximately 840sqm of shops (7, 6 small shops and 1 larger convenience store) , Public Open Space 2 and a total of 140 new homes. The application is unusual as it is both and outline for 112 of the dwellings and a full application for the mixed use block involving the shops and 28 flats. The application was registered on the 9th January 2012 and formal consultation started on the 19th January, 2012.
In order to get your views a public consultation event will be taking place on the 28th January, 2012 in the Orchard Park Community Centre between 9:45 - 12:45, all are welcome, so please come along, planning and community officers will be available to answer questions and the current plans will be on display.
What's been happening:
- Construction of the Travelodge building is complete, and the building is open, designed by AFA Architects, it has a very interesting public arts structure outside.
- Work has finished on the Cambridgeshire Guided Busway (This link will open in a new window). Two bus stops serve Orchard Park with a dedicated route running along the southern side of the site, adjacent to Kings Hedges Road.
- Martin Grant Homes are nearing competion on their site land parcel D1 corner of Ring fort Road/ Chieftain way (S/0363/07/RM).
- Permission Homes are nearing completion of their site B1 (S/2101/07) at the corner of Kings Hedges Road and started in October 2011 on the site parcel H1 (S/0710/11) Stanley Ave/Chieftain Way. In addition they have planning permission for their final land parcel G (S/1923/11)(16 flats, Chieftain Ave/Kings Hedges Road) across the road.
Coming up:
- The City Council are continuing to look at the possibilities of delivering a self commissioned housing scheme on it's land to the east of the site (K1). This is an interesting and exciting project.
- The County Council are working on plans for a 90 place extension to the Orchard Park Primary School the application is expected soon.
- Unex are currently marketing the remaining vacant land parcels, and
- Three new bus shelters are due for installation in the summer, services to all five original locations will take place.
Background
Located to the northern side of Cambridge alongside the A14, Orchard Park, previously known as Arbury Park, is a new mixed-use development at Arbury Camp. The site currently has permission, in principle, for 900 homes. The development includes a range of one, two, three and four bedroom houses and apartments, providing 300 affordable homes, with 13 specially adapted for people with disabilities and eight properties for the learning disability partnership. The potential for a further 220 homes on the site has also been supported in principle by Government Inspectors.
