STREET LIGHTING

South Cambridgeshire District Council (SCDC) is responsible for the maintenance of over 1700 footway lights throughout the district. These lights have plastic plates fixed to them displaying a unique identification number prefixed by 'SC'. In addition to these, there are many thousands of streetlights throughout the district. These have been installed by Cambridgeshire County Council (CCC) and have plastic plates fixed to them displaying a unique identification number prefixed by 'CCC'. The specification for both types of light is however generally the same.

Regardless of ownership, all reports of faulty lights i.e. that lights that are out, working intermittently, on during the day etc. can be reported on one free phone number: 0800 7838 247. Please describe the following:

  • The SC or CCC identification number, street name and village
  • The fault description (e.g. out, lit during daytime, lamp dim etc.)

Faults can also be reported online via the County Council's website (This link will open in a new window).

Emergency faults, which are likely to cause an immediate risk to life or limb, should be reported to the police, either by telephoning the nearest police station or, in extreme emergencies, by dialling 999.

It is particularly helpful when we are made aware immediately of any damage caused by accident or vandalism.

A message about any routine faults can be left in the evenings and at weekends on the free phone number.
