Dogs at the Park

Milton Country Park welcomes dogs and their responsible owners. Indeed many owners find friendships soon develop among the 'regulars', making walking the dog a far more sociable experience.
We do ask that you follow the guidelines below to make visiting Milton Country Park an enjoyable experience for everyone.
Scooping the Poop: Why Bother?
No-one likes dog mess, not only is it unsightly it contains many things that can make people, especially children, ill. The best known of these is toxocara canis, the eggs of which can cause bronchial conditions, aches and pains or even blindness.
What if my dog does 'poop' when I am in the park?
All you need do is clean it up! There are a number of 'pooper scoopers' on the market although these can be expensive; the cheap and more environmentally friendly way is to recycle old shopping or bread bags. There's no need to touch the mess, just use the bag as a glove, pick it up, turn the bag inside out and tie the top up. Put the bag into one of the green dog waste bins around the site.
If you forget your poop bags, ask one of the rangers and they may be able to find you some. A fuller explanation of these bylaws is available on park noticeboards.
Why does my dog have to be on a lead?
To put it simply, dogs need to be on a lead in the area south of the 13th public drain. If you arrive by car, as soon as you enter the park it is a dogs on leads zone. When you cross a bridge over the 13th public drain heading away from the A14(going north) your dog can be let off the lead, and if you cross a bridge heading towards the A14 (the south) your dog needs to be put back on a lead.
We may need you to put your dog on a lead in other areas and will tell you where and why accordingly.
What if I lose my dog whilst at the park?
Try not to panic. Our experience in the past has found that most lost dogs are found at the park; some go back to the car park or if you are local, they sometimes take themselves home!
Please give a detailed description of your dog and where you last saw it to the rangers who may be able to help you.
If we find a lost dog we contact the our Environmental Health department who may take the dog to Parkside Police Station or Wood Green Animal Shelter (This link will open in a new window). If you lose your dog it's worth contacting these along with the local vets in case someone else has handed your dog into them.
