Elite Athlete Award Scheme April 2009 - March 2013

Lord Coe speaking at the launch event for the Elite Athlete Award Scheme

About the award

South Cambridgeshire District Council has been inspired by the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games to invite all elite athletes over the age of 12 to apply for an elite athlete award to support their sporting talent. Priority will be given to athletes with the potential to compete at the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

All grant recipients will be expected to provide a short end of year report including details of their performance and how the grant has been spent in accordance with the information provided in the application. Other support services for athletes and their families, including injury prevention, diet and nutrition advice are available. The next panel meeting will be on 11th May 2012 and the deadline for apllications is 9th May 2012

Eligibility

The scheme is open to both able-bodied and disabled athletes. Priority will go to those taking part in sports that will be included in the 2012 Games. The scheme will support any athlete who lives in South Cambridgeshire. If an applicant studies or trains outside South Cambridgeshire they can still apply, provided their family home is in the district. Applicants who are studying at a College or University within South Cambridgeshire will not be eligible unless they also have a family home within the District

Applications will be assessed by a panel at least twice during each year, all applicants will be advised of these dates when applying. We are now in the final year of the programme with funding running from April 2012 - March 2013.
