Homebuy scheme

Homebuy is a scheme, operated by selected housing associations (registered social landlords) in England, which helps qualifying tenants of housing associations and local authorities or people on a housing waiting list and nominated by the local council as being in housing need, to buy a home on the open market.

The money available for Homebuy is limited and the scheme is not supported by all local authorities, so not everyone wishing to take part can do so. Where the scheme is available, housing associations will operate a waiting list if the demand for the scheme exceeds the money available.

Also available for keyworkers.

Who is eligible for the Homebuy scheme?

Existing tenants of registered social landlords and local councils or those on housing waiting lists who are nominated by their local council as being in housing need.

How does Homebuy work?

You will need to contribute 75% of the purchase price of a home and the registered social landlord will lend you the remaining 25%.

How do I apply for Homebuy?

In order to apply you will need to contact Bedfordshire Pilgrims Housing Association (BPHA) at the following address to request an application form.

When you have completed and signed the application form, return it to the BPHA. Please keep a copy of the form for your records. Do not make any financial or legal commitment to buy a home at this stage otherwise you will not qualify for the scheme.

What happens next?

The information you have given on the application form will be checked by BPHA. We may ask you for more information, for example, evidence of income or savings. If satisfied with the details you have provided (and after checking with the local council whether it will be able to nominate someone to your rented home if you are a tenant), BPHA will inform you in writing whether you qualify for the scheme.
