What do the rent, support charge and service charges cover?
Residents of sheltered schemes are required to pay a weekly rent and service charge, the service charge includes the following elements:-
- alarm system/pendants/smoke detectors
- communal facilities (laundry, lighting, etc.)
- sheltered housing service
The services provided by the sheltered housing officer are funded by Supporting People. You may be eligible for help from Supporting People with paying your support charges. This will depend on your circumstances and we can advise you about this before or after you move into your home.
If you are part-purchasing a sheltered housing property under the equity share scheme, your service charge will also include costs for the external maintenance of the scheme - see Leaseholder Information for more details.
