What is the alarm system and how do I use it?
The alarm system is fitted and maintained by Tunstall Telecom. There is a speech module in each property and pull cords in each room. If you need assistance in an emergency, you should either press the red button on the speech module or pull the cord. Your call will be answered either by the sheltered housing officer or the control centre - Invicta Telecare. They will contact the Primary Care Trust, emergency services or your family as required. If you have been issued with a pendant, this should be worn and be accessible at all times. Press the button in the centre of the pendant for assistance.
Your sheltered housing officer will explain the alarm system to you and answer any queries you have.
Key safes are provided externally on all of our properties and enable quicker access to you in an emergency. Your sheltered housing officer will explain how they work and programme in a number of your choice. The number will be given to the control centre - Invicta Telecare who will only then give the number to authorised services, for example the Primary Care Trust, police, ambulance or fire services in an emergency.
Do's and Don'ts for alarm systems
- Please do not tie up your pull cords. They should reach to floor level so that if anyone falls they can still reach the cord.
- Remember to stay calm. Help will come as soon as possible.
- If you, or one of your visitors pulls the cord by mistake, please do not worry. This often happens and we will just need to know that you don't need any help.
- If you are taken ill and are unable to speak, don't worry. Once you have triggered a call the emergency services will be contacted to respond to you.
- If you think that your alarm is not working properly, you should let your sheltered housing officer know.
