Pets
Background
A Council tenant may keep a reasonable number of domestic pets but you must not keep any animal that the Council decides is unsuitable for your home. If you are in any doubt at all ask at the Housing Department. Your pet or pets must not annoy or frighten other people.

I would like to keep an unusual animal e.g. a pot bellied pig, tiger or crocodile at my Council property, do I have to ask permission first?
Yes, you would need to write to housing services asking for permission. You would need to include details of the animal you wish to keep. The Housing Services team will reply within 14 days of receipt of your letter with a decision.
You have the right to appeal against the decision within 28 days of receipt of the notification.
I have been to dogs / cat home and they have said that I need landlord permission in writing to have a pet, what do I do?
You must write to housing services and they will reply within 14 days of receipt of your letter giving you permission if they are in agreement.
I wish to complain about my neighbour's pets, what must I do?
You must write to housing services detailing the nature of the complaint and whom you are complaining against. The housing services team will investigate your complaint and reply within 14 days of receipt of your letter notifying you of the outcome.
