Decoration Allowance

What is a decoration allowance?

A decoration allowance is a payment given to a tenant for one of the following reasons:

  • A new tenant going into their new home
  • Following major repairs or programmed works within their home e.g. re-plastering

Who decides how much the payment will be?

Technical Officers of South Cambridgeshire District Council (SCDC) decide this on a room by room basis.

How is the decoration allowance issued?

This is in a voucher form that tenants can exchange for goods in most DIY stores. (NB this only applies for goods classed as decoration materials.) The voucher must be used within 6 months of issue.

How can I apply for a decoration allowance if I have major / programmed works?

What happens next?
