Hardstandings and Dropped Kerbs

An example of a dropped kerb

It is possible in some cases for a driveway and dropped kerb to be installed at a council property. In order for this work to be completed your rent account must be clear of arrears.

How to apply

You will need to write to your Housing Services Officer and request landlord's permission, showing the location and layout of the driveway/hardstanding. We will then send you a schedule of conditions and a completion card.

Depending on the location planning permission may be required.

The driveway/hardstanding/drop kerb/vehicular cross over will be installed at your expense. Once you have completed the driveway/hardstanding works you must complete and return your completion card to the housing services team who will in turn arrange for an inspection of the work. After the inspection you can then arrange to have the kerb dropped and vehicular cross over which will also need to be inspected once completed.

Please be aware that the price to drop the kerb is dependent on the location i.e. access to a public highway or minor road, length of kerb needed to be dropped and any other external factors i.e. moving of a lamp post. You will need to contact a qualified contractor to enquire about the cost of this before undertaking an work.

Will my rent increase once the dropped kerb has been completed?

No, there will be no additional cost.
