Tenants and Residents Groups
We support the development of Tenant and Resident Groups throughout the district. We currently have a number of Tenant and Resident Groups operating within South Cambridgeshire. In order to access financial support from the Council they must be formally constituted with a written constitution. This can be amended to suit the particular needs of each organisation as each group has different aims and objectives and operates at its own pace although it will need to meet certain criteria before financial assistance is given.
Initial and ongoing support is provided by your housing services officer, which includes:
- Facilitating your first meeting and ongoing assistance until you are ready to run yourselves
- Ongoing advice and best practice information
- Access to training provided by the Council or attendance on external courses, i.e., role of chairman, treasurer, secretary and tenant conferences
- Help with the production of local newsletters, including layout and initial printing facilities
- Annual funding once committee elected and constitution agreed
The local tenant and residents groups will meet every two months at appropriate dates to fit into the Tenant Participation Group (TPG) cycle in order to influence the agenda of the TPG and will elect a chairman, vice-chairman, secretary and treasurer at their annual meeting.
Two tenant and/or leaseholder representatives elected from each tenant and resident group will be members of the TPG, this will provide a regular opportunity to share information and best practice with each other and contribute to the decision-making processes in the housing service. We will continue to look for new opportunities to establish more groups where there is little or no representation.
