The Housing Strategy 2012-16

The existing three-year Housing Strategy expired in July 2010. At that time a conscious decision was taken to postpone its renewal due to the uncertainty surrounding potential changes following the new Coalition Government and to await the Audit Commission Inspection of our Strategic Housing Service undertaken in December 2010. A report was taken to the Housing Portfolio Holder in January 2011 to agree the format and key themes for the new Housing Strategy.Since then, proposed changes through the Social Housing Reform, HRA subsidy system, Welfare Benefit Reform, National Planning Framework and the Localism Bill are in the process of going forward and have a huge impact on the strategic housing role within the Council. These proposals have meant that the development of the Housing Strategy has been further delayed until such time that the Council is better placed to understand the implications of the government proposals.

It is anticipated that the new Strategy will be published from April 2012.

The Housing Strategy 2007-2010

The Housing Strategy document brings together all aspects of the Council's comprehensive housing role. All the different strands of the strategy have been developed in partnership with a wide range of key stakeholders inside the authority, in other agencies, and in the wider community. It is therefore fully integrated with the Council's wider community objectives, and takes full account of national, regional and sub-regional priorities. The Housing Strategy was approved by Council on 19th July 2007.
