CAMBRIDGE NORTHERN FRINGE (ARBURY PARKS)
Work is underway on a large urban extension at Cambridge Northern Fringe, called Arbury Park, where approximately 900 homes will be built on land in South Cambridgeshire. 30% of these homes (approximately 270) will be affordable. The lead RSL (registered social landlord) for the project, Places for People, is working closely with the local authorities, the developers, J.J. Gallagher, and the RSL consortium members, including Bedfordshire Pilgrims Housing Association and King Street Housing Society, to bring forward an innovative, sustainable development which meets local needs and enhances the local community.
The new affordable housing will be made available to applicants from South Cambridgeshire and Cambridge City. One hundred and thirty-five homes will be available to rent, while key workers will benefit from 95 homes available for shared ownership and 40 near market rent homes.
There will be a good spread of home sizes including 13 adapted properties for disabled applicants. In addition, there will be a ten person learning disability unit provided jointly with Cambridge Learning Disability Partnership.
Building work on the new homes commenced in September 2006 on 13 sites across the development and it is anticipated that all affordable housing will be completed by the Spring 2008.
For further information regarding the affordable development at this site, please contact the Development Team.
If you are interested in these or any other affordable housing in South Cambridgeshire, and are not already registered, please contact the general housing enquiries line on 08450 450 051. For more information about key worker housing contact Keyhomes East on 0845 4566757 or www.keyhomes-east.org.uk
Community Spirit scoops Award
Community work at Arbury Park has helped Bedfordshire Pilgrim's Housing Association (BPHA) scoop a National Black and New Communities Network Award for sustainable communities.
BPHA was given the award for work across the region, in particular at Arbury Park. The award recognises the appointment of a dedicated community development officer to work with new and prospective residents, as well as those living close to the site. Abbie Mason was appointed in January this year, shortly before the first residents moved in. Abbie has been working with residents and local groups to help develop a sense of community as new homes take shape.
The new post is the successful result of partnership working between SCDC, Cambridge City Council, BPHA, Places for People, The Papworth Trust, King Street Housing Society and Arbury Park's developers.
