Why Change?
Why is the Council looking at transfer?
SCDC has always provided the best possible service to its tenants and leaseholders.
The Council currently has to give half of the rent it collects from tenants - that's £10 million - to the Government. This money is used by the Government to pay for housing in other parts of the country. Some councils benefit from this but others, like SCDC, lose out substantially.
It is also likely that this amount will increase in the years to come and more of the rent you pay will go into this national fund.
If transfer goes ahead, whichever type of housing association is chosen as the landlord, it would not have to give any money to the Government. It would be able to keep 100% of the rent it receives and invest it in your homes and running the housing service.
