The second phase of the project

At the end of January 2008, South Cambridgeshire District Council (SCDC) voted to develop a detailed proposal for the transfer of the ownership and management of its homes to a new housing association landlord.

The key task of the second phase of the Housing Futures project is to work closely with tenant representatives, Councillors and staff to set out the details of the Council's transfer proposal and explain exactly what transfer could mean for tenants. It will also be important to set out what would happen if the Council retains its housing.

Once all the transfer details are shaped, they will be set out in a Formal Consultation Document, or offer document as it is sometimes known. Every tenant will receive a copy of this document and there will be plenty of opportunities to ask questions and make comments about the information in the proposal too. Leaseholders will also receive a copy of the document, for information.

After tenants have received this document, which will set out what transfer would mean for the future and equally what the future would look like if homes stayed with the Council, they will be asked to vote on whether they want the proposal to go ahead. Leaseholders will also have the opportunity to vote but it will be counted separately. Only tenants will decide if a transfer can proceed.
