Choice of landlord

As part of the process one of the first steps was to decide what sort of housing association would be best for SCDC.

The new Landlord Selection Panel which included five elected tenant members five councillors and five members of council staff looked
closely at the pros and cons of the different types of landlord model.

The Panel looked at three models, including joining an existing group of housing associations and forming a new group with an existing stand alone housing association.

However, based on the information gained from visits and consulting with tenants, the Panel felt that creating a new local housing association was the best option to ensure local independence and decision making in South Cambridgeshire.

On 17 July 2008, South Cambridgeshire District Council approved a recommendation that homes should transfer to a new stand alone independent local housing association, set up with the support of the Council, specifically for South Cambridgeshire, if tenants vote in favour of a transfer in a ballot to be held next year.
