Am I eligible for Sheltered Housing?

Only applications from people aged 60 or over will normally be considered for our sheltered housing schemes. For a joint application, at least one of the applicants must be aged 60 or over.

Applicants below the age of 60 but over the age of 40 with a physical or other disability who may have a particular need for sheltered housing may be considered at their own request.

A sheltered housing assessment form will be completed by a housing services officer on a home visit prior to you being allocated a property to ensure you are eligible. There is a right to request a review of any decision not to accept an applicant for sheltered housing accommodation.

If you are a homeowner aged 60 or more, SCDC offers you the possibility of part buying a property in a sheltered housing scheme under the Equity Share Scheme for the Elderly.

Properties specially adapted, or suitable for adaption, for a household that includes a person with a physical disability, learning disability, sensory impairment or other recognised disability

Properties that become available in this category will be offered as a first priority to applicants where a member of their household has a disability and for whom the dwelling would be particularly suitable.
