Green box

Green box service requests (This link will open in a new window) can be submitted online.

In addition to the green wheeled bin, residents of South Cambridgeshire district also have a green box to further increase the capacity for recycling.

The green box should be used for:

  • Paper - Junk Mail, newspapers, magazines, telephone directories (inc Yellow Pages)
  • Glass bottles and jars
  • Aluminium and steel cans
  • Plastic bottles

Please remember to:

  • Try to separate separate materials within the boxes
  • Take all tops and triggers off the bottles. These cannot be recycled and should continue to be put in your black bins as this makes collection easier.
  • Place any shredded paper and cardboard you may have into your green wheeled bin for composting.

Collection of Green Boxes

  • The green boxes are collected on the same day as the green wheeled bins
  • The boxes are collected between 7.00am - 6:30pm
  • Collections are by a contractor called Veolia Environmental Services

The green boxes do not have lids for the following reasons.

  • Lids would restrict the volume of the boxes
  • Cost
  • Lids as they would not be attached to the boxes could become windblown in windy conditions.
  • It does not matter if newspapers or magazines get wet.

From 10th October 2005, textile collections were withdrawn from the green box service. Please take your textiles to one of the banks at the recycling centres or to your nearest charity shop.
