Blue Bin - YES

  • Plastic bottles

Blue Bin - NO

  • Expanded polystyrene*

  • DVDs/CDs, video cassettes/audio tapes***
  • Books***
  • Textiles and shoes***

* There are two types of Polystyrene (PS). Although we can accept rigid polystyrene which most commonly comes in the form of yoghurt pots, we cannot accept expanded polystyrene (e.g.protective packaging for electrical goods, foam meat and fish trays).
** These items can be taken to one of the household waste recycling centres at Milton or Thriplow.

Excess recyclables will be collected if placed alongside the blue bin in a returnable container.

 

Caddy - YES

  • Paper
  • Newspapers & magazines
  • Telephone directories (inc. Yellow Pages)
  • Catalogues
  • Envelopes (with or without windows)
  • Shredded paper*
  • Junk mail

* Please contain shredded paper within an old envelope - remember you only need to shred the part of document displaying confidential information.

Caddy - NO

  • Jiffy bags
  • Wrapping paper
  • Greeting cards
  • Kitchen towels
  • Tissues
  • Card (place in blue bin)

Battery Bag - YES

  • AA and AA cell batteries
  • Button batteries
  • Size C & D batteries
  • Laptop & mobile batteries

Battery Bag - No

  • Lead acid batteries (e.g. vehicle batteries)

Please put the bag out for collection with your blue bin. Using the self-adhesive strip, attach the bag to the bin underneath the handle.


Green wheeled bins - YES

Garden waste Food waste

  • Grass cuttings
  • Leaves, prunings and clippings
  • Tree branches less than 5 inches in diameter
  • Untreated wood and bark
  • Rabbit/Guinea pig waste (i.e. straw, hay and newspaper)
  • Windfall fruit
  • Cooked food

  • Stale bread

Green wheeled bins - NO

  • Any compostable/biodegradable bags apart from paper liners

  • Cartons (e.g. Tetrapak)
  • Painted wood
  • Oil of any type
  • Carpets/rugs
  • Cat litter
  • Turf and soil (due to its weight)
  • Disposable nappies

Excess organic waste cannot be collected, please compost it or take to Milton or Thriplow Recycling Centre.

Kitchen and garden waste from your green bin is composted and made into soil improver. You can collect soil improver free from Donarbon Waste Management Park at Waterbeach, Monday to Friday 8am to 5pm, Saturday 8am to 12noon. Just remember to being your own sacks and a shovel.

Black wheeled bins - NO

  • Any items accepted in the green bin, blue bin or local recycling sites
  • Paint tins (empty or full)*
  • Rubble (due to its weight)*

* These items can be taken to one of the household waste recycling centres at Milton or Thriplow.

Plastic sacks

  • Plastic sacks must NOT be used in the green bin. This includes plastic sacks purchased as "biodegradable".

Contaminated bins

If any non compostable waste is placed into the green bin or non recycable waste is placed in the blue bin it will be classed as "contaminated" and will NOT be collected.

If a bin is found to be contaminated a sticker will be left on the bin to explain why it was not collected. You are requested re-sort your rubbish into the correct bin and re-present for collection on the appropriate day.

The Council has a strict contamination policy to ensure that only material capable of being composted or recycled is collected.
