Keeping Wheeled Bins Clean

The experience of numerous other councils who operate an alternate weekly collection of wheeled bins indicates that there should not be any hazards to health.

The close fitting lids of both the green and black bins helps stop rain, flies and other vermin getting in and also prevent smells getting out.

However spillages on the outside of your bin or lip could attract flies, it would be in your interests to remove any such spillage.

The wheeled bins will also effectively deter animals from causing the mess they do when tearing open the sacks of rubbish.

To wash your bins the Council recommends lying it on its side and using a hosepipe to wash it out, leaving it to drain and dry out naturally.

Although the Council cannot offer a bin cleaning service, there are a number of private companies in the area who can provide this service. Check the yellow pages or South Cambs Magazine for details.

Bin Liners

You can use bin liners in the black bin but please do NOT use plastic bags in the green bin, even those sold as "biodegradable" liners.
