plastics

Plastics

  • Plastic sacks must NOT be used in the green bin. This includes plastic sacks purchased as "biodegradable".

There are now a number of recycling banks for plastic bottles throughout the district. Find your nearest plastics recycling bank

kitchen

Kitchen waste

Last year we hoped to include food waste in the wheeled bin recycling scheme. Donarbon who process the green waste into compost needed a licence from Central Government.

Donarbon have now been issued with their licence, this means you can now put food waste into your green bin.

The benefits:

  • Reduce the waste in the black bin, particularly in the summer months when you may have had concerns about the black bin smelling.
  • It helps home composters because, as well as cardboard and woodier items of garden waste, cooked food and chicken carcasses that are not home compostable can be placed in the green bin.

contamination

Contaminated bins

If any non compostable waste is placed into the green bin it will be classed as "contaminated" and will NOT be collected.

If a bin is found to be contaminated a sticker will be left on the bin to explain why it was not collected. You are requested resort your rubbish into the correct bin and re-present for collection on the appropriate day.

The Council has a strict contamination policy to ensure that only material capable of being composted is collected so that the compost produced is suitable for use.
