Transport and Travel Information
SPEPshare: Are you going my way?
What is it?
Online car sharing networks for parishes signed up to the SPEP.
SPEPshare (This link will open in a new window) aims to make it easier to find others who want to share lifts.
How does it work?
Sign up online and enter journeys that you can share. Then it will search for people travelling to the same place at the same time so that you can get in contact and see if it will be convenient to share lifts.
What's in it for me?
Companionship, money in your pocket and petrol in your tank!
And of course you'll be doing your bit to cut carbon dioxide emissions, reduce pollution and help tackle climate change.
Don't forget, you'll be helping yourself by easing congestion on your own journey!!!
What's stopping you?
Can't commit?
Try one day a week or one-off shares - you'll still be doing something positive but not be tied down
Worried about who's sharing?
This scheme is being promoted within each SPEP parish so there is a chance that you might know other car sharers.
It is always important to meet your 'buddy' before you travel and let other people know who you are sharing with and when you are travelling.
Consider car sharing with a group of people
Wondering how much you will actually save?
See for yourself, use the cost calculator online (This link will open in a new window)
If you're the driver, there's no reason why you should be out of pocket. As long as you don't make a profit, you can share travel costs between all the passengers (petrol and parking costs)..
Worried about whether your insurance covers it?
The best thing to do is check - a quick phone call to your insurer or look at your policy document should confirm whether you are covered. Follow the link for more information about insurance implications and other frequently asked questions. (This link will open in a new window)
If you are ready to join, follow the link to SPEPshare (This link will open in a new window) and choose your village or parish from the drop-down menu.
Each member parish of the SPEP has their own 'online car sharing network' within SPEPshare. Look out for more information in your parish or follow this link to the SPEP Member pages to find out who is your Parish Representative.
