Histon and Impington
Histon and Impington Climate Change Action (This link will open in a new window), (HICCA) is group of local people from in and around the villages of Histon and Impington, who have got together to take action on the problem of man-made climate change.
Actions include:
- Identifying and exploring ways of reducing their carbon footprints
- Raising awareness of man-made climate change issues and encouraging greener lifestyle choices
- Working with parish, county and parliamentary representatives, pushing for government at all levels to do more about man-made climate change
HICCA believes that as well as being a serious threat, the climate change crisis is also a great opportunity to work together in the our community and make changes which improve quality of life and make our villages cleaner, safer and greener. HICCA has been co-opted onto both the Impington and Histon Parish Council Environment committees.
HICCA is involved with many projects to help their villages and the wider community within South Cambridgeshire including:
Greening Campaign in which over 450 village households took part and pledged to reduce their carbon footprints
Home Energy Action Team (HEAT) which loans home energy monitors and engages local homeowners in a dialogue to help them cut energy use and carbon dioxide emissions.
School Programmes such as the Climate Rescue Club, and a new initiative to bring energy awareness into village classrooms through an innovative homework assignment that involves students and parents
Public Meetings with films, speakers and most recently a 'question time' for candidates running in the General Election.
HICCA members have also been involved with setting up a monthly village newspaper distributed free to all 3500 homes, covering all aspects of village life including climate change and its effects on the future lives of villagers. (see www.HICourier.co.uk)
HI Car, a car sharing club for the village, has been set up and is being run by several HICCA members.

Other members are active in many different aspects of climate change in Arts, Sciences, Politics, and Education. HICCA has a local mailing list of over 250 people.
