Bassingbourn

Bassingbourn Transition Village (This link will open in a new window) (BTV) came about as a result of the Parish Plan which was initiated by volunteers and the support of the parish council in 2006. One of the groups, The Living Local working group explored initiatives that would help villages live more "locally" such as local food and energy production. In October 2008 BTV was initiated by the living local group supported by the parish council, the parish church, Bassingbourn Village College and school. BTV follow the template laid out by the transition towns movement. In April 2009 the parish council agreed that BTV should coordinate with the SPEP on their behalf.

BTV are recognised as a transition town following the methodology explained in the transition handbook. BTV are working with the community and a number of partners to address the issues of peak oil and climate change. Current initiatives are: Energy and Homes, Food and Biodiversity, Transport and Travel and Social and Awareness.
