Planning Parish Forum
The first Planning Parish Forum took place on Monday 19 January 2009. The meeting provided an opportunity for Parish Council's to discuss any planning issues they had, whilst also providing an additional level of training.

- Community Infrastructure Levy
Presentations by our conservation team provided an opportunity to learn more about biodiversity i.e. ponds, Parish Tree Planting and the Tree Warden Scheme. The aim of the meeting was to discuss parish planning issues and is separate from the recently launched CPALC / Parish meetings with Cabinet, which have a Council wide agenda.
The Parish Forum was put together with the support of CPALC, with a good response.
Delegation System
A briefing note was circulated by Cllr Mrs Pippa Corney, Planning Committee Chairman, to explain the district councillors role in the delegation system.
Presentations
Biodiversity

The conservation of biodiversity cannot be achieved alone. South Cambridgeshire District Council (SCDC) can act as a main driver by providing advice and grants through its Conservation team but it needs the support of landowners and Parish Councils as these groups often know about local issues and initiatives.
Biodiversity, Planning and Communities by Rob Mungovan, Ecology Officer - outlined why biodiversity conservation is needed, simple means for providing gain, illustrated some of the important species an habitats and then considered how wildlife projects can bring together communities.
Links to the publications referred to during Rob's presentation are provided below:
- PPS9 Biodiversity & Geological Conservation (2005) (This link will open in a new window)
- Natural Environment and Rural Communities Act (NERC), 2006, Section 41 (This link will open in a new window)
This requires the publication of a list of the living organisms and types of habitats which are of principal importance for the purpose of conserving biodiversity. - ODPM Circular 06/2005 Biodiversity and Geological Conservation - Statutory Obligations and Their Impact Within The Planning System (This link will open in a new window)

Trees and Landscape

The retention and enhancement of the tree scape within the district influences planning applications and drives forward parish initiatives to plant and diversify the tree stock and hedges, using local knowledge through a Tree Warden Scheme.
Trees and Landscape by Roz Richardson, Trees and Landscape Officer - outlined her work profile; providing information and support to members of the public, parish councils and local Members; pre-application site visits with agents providing guidance on accommodating trees within developments, both existing and new plantings, with thought for the bigger picture of a development.
