The Trumpington Meadows development is the first of four proposed housing developments for the southern fringe of Cambridge to be considered by the new Joint Development Control Committee. The Joint Development Control Committee for the Cambridge Fringes resolved to grant outline planning permission subject to the signing of a S106 on the 20th February.

On the 21st December 2007, SCDC and Cambridge City Council received duplicate outline planning applications for the Trumpington Meadows development (on land around Trumpington Park and Ride). The development includes proposals to demolish the former Monsanto buildings in Cambridge and built 1200 new homes, a primary school and a 60 hectare country park between Trumpington and Hauxton Mill, two new road accesses, a primary school including a community facility, a local centre, new and improved footpaths and cycleways, plus open space, recreation facilities and children's play space. Planning applications for this development were first received by SCDC and Cambridge City Council in July 2006 and since then there has been a number of amendments.

The planning applications will be assessed against S (This link will open in a new window)CDCs Cambridge Southern Fringe Area Action Plan (AAP) which was adopted in February 2008.

Draft Landscape and Open Space Strategy

South Cambridgeshire District Council, Cambridge City Council and Cambridgeshire Horizons commissioned a joint study for the the treatment of landscape and open spaces in association with the development of the Cambridge Southern Fringe.
