Supplementary Planning Documents (SPDs)

What are SPDs?

Supplementary Planning Documents (SPDs) are intended to expand upon policy or provide further detail to policies in adopted Development Plan Documents (DPDs). When adopted, SPDs form part of the Local Development Framework but do not have development plan status and are not subject to independent examination.

Stages in the production of an SPD:

  1. Evidence gathering and preparation of draft SPD and draft Sustainability Appraisal.
  2. Public consultation on the draft SPD and draft Sustainability Appraisal (6 weeks).
  3. Consider representations received and finalise SPD and Sustainability Appraisal.
  4. Adoption of SPD.

Adopted SPDs

Currently ten SPDs have been adopted:

SPDs in Production

The draft Orchard Park SPD was approved for consultation at the New Communities Portfolio Holders Meeting on 13 July 2010 (This link will open in a new window). It will be subject to 6 weeks public consultation from 6 September - 18 October 2010.

We are currently preparing two further SPDs, which will be subject to public consultation in late Autumn 2010:

  • Fen Drayton Land Settlement Association SPD; and
  • Health Impact Assessment SPD.

The timetables for two other SPDs are being reviewed:

  • Papworth Everard West Central SPD; and
  • Dwellings associated with Rural Enterprise SPD.

If you would like a further explanation on our SPDs, or any other matter relating to the Local Development Framework, please either e-mail the Planning Policy section on ldf@scambs.gov.uk, or phone (01954) 713183.
