What is the Draft Open Space in New Developments SPD?

The draft Open Space in New Developments SPD provides further detail on the Council's quantitative, qualitative and accessibility standards for children's playspace, outdoor sport, and informal open space for new developments. It also provides clear guidance on how to calculate the requirements of individual developments, and the process that applicants and officers will need to go through during the planning application process.

The Open Space in New Developments SPD is included in the Council's Local Development Scheme, described as the Recreation and Community SPD. The SPD produced does not cover community buildings, and these will be addressed separately in the Planning Obligations SPD.

The draft SPD was approved for public consultation at the Growth and Sustainable Communities / Planning Services Portfolio Holders' Joint Meeting on 12th March 2008.

The Council sought your views on this plan through a six-week period of public consultation from 6 June to 18 July 2008. Please see the formal notice for more information.

The finalised Open Space in New Developments SPD, taking account of the representations received, will be considered by Cabinet on 13 November 2008 and then adopted.
