What is the Development Control Policies DPD?

The Development Control Policies DPD will guide decisions on planning applications within South Cambs. It is an extremely important part of the Local Development Framework, covering a wide range of topics, including housing, jobs, travel, the natural environment and the Green Belt:

  • Housing: Bringing forward Affordable Housing, more smaller homes and at higher densities than in the past to make better use of land.
  • Jobs: Making enough land available to meet the needs of the nationally important Hi-Tech Industry and other employment sectors to meet local needs.
  • Services and Facilities: Policies are included to ensure vital facilities are safeguarded and wherever possible enhanced when new development comes forward.
  • The Natural Environment: Promoting biodiversity, safeguarding resources through the re-use and recycling of materials, and ensuring that new developments use energy efficiently.
  • Travel: Reducing the need to travel by locating housing close to jobs and services and encouraging public transport, cycling and walking instead of the car.
  • Green Belt: Keeping the Green Belt as it is except where changes have to be made for the major developments on the edge of Cambridge.
