Trumpington Meadows - Detailed information on planning applications and development progress within the Cambridge Southern Fringe AAP area, now known as Trumpington Meadows.
What is the Cambridge Southern Fringe AAP?
The Core Strategy sets out the broad location for future development in South Cambridgeshire. It states that the most preferable location for new development is on the edge of Cambridge. The Cambridge Southern Fringe AAP is one of three Area Action Plans which will provide detailed planning policy guidance for specific sites on the urban fringe of the City.
Considerable development has been proposed on the southern side of Cambridge, with urban extensions at Trumpington and around Addenbrooke's Hospital. However, nearly all this building, around 3,300 houses, will take place within Cambridge City Council's administrative area.
The only part of this development proposed to be within South Cambs will be on the former Monsanto site, south-west of Trumpington (around the Trumpington Park and Ride site and Waitrose supermarket). This site has been put forward for redevelopment to provide 1,200 homes and a 60 hectare country park between Trumpington and Hauxton Mill. 600 of these homes are proposed to be within within South Cambridgeshire. The whole development will be known as Trumpington Meadows and includes two new road accesses, a primary school including a community facility, a local centre, new and improved footpaths and cycleways, plus open space, recreation facilities and children's play space.
Adoption of the Cambridge Southern Fringe AAP
The Council submitted the Cambridge Southern Fringe AAP to the Secretary of State in January 2006. Examination hearings to test the 'soundness' of the DPD were held in June 2007.
The Inspector issued in October 2007 his Inspectors Report concluding that the Cambridge Southern Fringe AAP is 'sound' subject to a number of binding changes being made. The Cambridge Southern Fringe AAP was formally adopted on 21 February 2008.
